"This was my first time attaching strain gages and the associated TorqueTrak 10K telemetry equipment, and running the OpDAQ software, in a"real" situation, and despite the practice beforehand in our office, Iran into some environmental challenges that proved daunting. I contacted the Binsfeld Engineering Sales Manager several times over the three days prior to going to sea,and he patiently coached me through the process. The starboard shaft strain gage went on perfectly; however, the port shaft was uncooperative. I was down to my last strain gage after two prior attempts, so I was quite nervous, as we were coming down to the wire.
He reached out to other experts at Binsfeld and made sure we were leaving no stone unturned. He correctly diagnosed that it was a problem with the strain gage installations (anything but a clean environment), and not the software.
I am glad to report that we got the data we needed, and it was well within the range of acceptable findings. The Sales Manager's encouragement and reassurance were a great support to me, a "rookie" worried about impacting testing of a ship for our customer. In the end, the customer was happy with the results."
